‘Count Me Out’ — Man Is in Disbelief When He Sees Highway Goes Underwater
This man goes viral for discovering that this highway goes underwater and how he wants nothing to do with it.
Building a highway that goes underwater doesn’t seem possible. Trying to comprehend how driving on dry land then suddenly moving underwater through a tunnel can be mind altering.
In a TikTok that’s generated over 46,800 views as of this writing, Stuu (@official.stuu) shares his thoughts on this on this highway going underwater and how he’ll avoid this road at all costs.
Highway goes underwater, “Count me out”
“They’re playing in our [expletive] faces right now. I’m getting disgusted,” Stuu begins as eerie conspiracy music plays.
With the text overlay, “Wait why this highway is underwater?”
Stuu believes it can be a conspiracy and questions why this highway goes underwater.
“Count me out. Why drive car, where boat go. Why even make road where boat go,” Stuu shares.
He then wonders where on Earth this place is and how he never wants to go there.
“Now where is this place bro? Remind me to never ever travel abroad here,” he continues.
Stuu then dives into the idea of this being a conspiracy.
“The further you go, the more spooky it gets. This is a conspiracy because how the [expletive] did you build concrete where ground plugs go,” he shares.
Stuu is puzzled by this and disregards world-class engineering to pitch this as a conspiracy.
“How the [expletive] did you build this staple enough to handle 5 o’clock traffic, I see the traffic is light,” he concludes.
Commenters chimed in on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
The highway being mentioned in the TikTok is the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Virginia. This bridge has been around for decades and for local drivers, it’s part of their daily commute.
The comment section was split between buying into the conspiracy while others completely ignored it.
Some viewers commented wanting nothing to do with this tunnel.
“Imagine being stuck in traffic under there,” one TikTok commenter added.
“Is this dimension traveling and are we so blind to see,” one speculates.
“Hard [expletive] no,” a third replied.
While others called out the conspiracy theory nonsense and shared stories of driving the highway.
“There’s no conspiracy gang, it’s just an underwater bridge to get across the 7 cities faster. It’s in Chesapeake VA and you’re talking nonsense,” one shares.
“This has been there for decades,” one commented.
“It’s not that scary,” a third replied.
How did the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel get built?
Building this bridge was considered to be an incredible display of engineering. While this seemed unimaginable, The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel defined all odds. This can easily boggle minds and make people question how is this even possible?
“How the [expletive] did they build that,” one TikTok commenter questions.
“Y’all missing the point, how is this built,” another added.
According to Skanska, The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel features:
- Two mile-long tunnels
- Four man-made islands
- Two steel bridges
- More than 17 miles of concrete trestle
- Two miles of earth-fill causeway
- Five miles of approach road on shore
When the bridge first opened in April 1964, it became one of the “Seven Engineering Wonders of the Modern World.” Construction took over three years to complete and dealt with severe conditions including nor’easters, hurricanes, strong currents, and shifting sands.
“The bridge sections were constructed using pre-stressed concrete and steel girders, designed to withstand the corrosive marine environment,” South Side Daily.
Additionally, four artificial islands were built to house the tunnel entrances. Each tunnel needed over 3 million cubic yards of sand and gravel to create a staple surface.
To form retaining walls, steel sheet piles were inserted into the bay floor. The islands were then filled and capped to create permanent landmasses that now serve as maintenance access points.
The two tunnels pass under the bay shipping channels. Tunnel boring machines excavated these tunnels which allowed the precast concrete section to be submerged and connected underwater. By doing this, the tunnel’s structural integrity was secured.
In conclusion, the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel is truly one of a kind bridge.
MotorBiscuit contacted Stu via TikTok direct message to ask if he would ever reconsider driving on this highway that goes underwater. The story will be updated if he replies.
