Kia’s latest recall affects the 2025 K5 sedan, one of the brand’s core midsize models. According to a new filing with federal regulators, a software bug in the car’s Power-net Domain Controller can cause the parking lights to flicker.

Per the NHTSA campaign, that glitch puts the vehicle out of compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108. This specific standard governs how exterior lights should function to help keep cars visible on the road.

The recall involves 82,281 Kia K5s and is listed under NHTSA campaign number 25V351000

Kia will fix the issue at no charge, either at dealerships or via an over-the-air software update. Notification letters are expected to reach owners starting June 24.

While the number may sound high on its own, Kia’s total number of recalled vehicles in 2025 isn’t all that high. Roughly 370,000 as of early June is actually pretty low compared to other automakers.

Ford, for example, has already recalled over 1 million vehicles this year. That was for a rearview camera fault. GM recalled more than 600,000 vehicles over its defective 6.2L V8  L87 engine alone. Toyota recalled more than 443,000. Kia’s figures, then, don’t seem all that high, eh?

In any case, owners looking for more information about the K5 recall can call Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542 and mention internal recall number SC341.

Drivers who notice their parking lights behaving oddly might want to check in with a dealer sooner rather than later, especially before any long summer road trips.
