Is it safe to assume that the Jeep death wobble is common knowledge? One woman is ranting about how her Wrangler violently shakes on the road, but dealerships can’t seem to provide a timely fix. Should she have done more research before buying?

Woman rants about Jeep death wobble problem

Jeep Wrangler owner and TikTok user @skylathestylist wants to know if others are aware of the infamous death wobble. This refers to when a Wrangler violently shakes at highway speeds.

She recently purchased her brand new SUV and loaded up for a road trip. Then it started to aggressively shake and break down on the road. It was going crazy on the highway.

Then the same thing happened again two months later. She went to the dealership for service and explained how her Wrangler was shaking, rattling, and rolling. The technician said it was the death wobble.

She wanted to return her vehicle, but was told that the death wobble is a common issue and can be fixed. Then you’re good. However, Skyla had to return to the dealership over death wobble problems a third time.

The technician offered to make an appointment to repair the Jeep in January, but Skyla was about to take a road trip to visit her family for Christmas.

Skyla asked what happens when the problem occurs again, and was told that she’s covered under the 36,000 mile warranty. She regrets buying the Wrangler and wants to warn other drivers before they make the same mistake.

I’ve reached out to Skylathestylist to see if her Wrangler has been repaired and to ask about the model year to see if its facing any axle or suspension related recalls.

Do modern Jeep Wrangler models have death wobble problems?

Yes, new Jeep Wrangler models can still experience the death wobble due to the solid front axle design. But it’s much less common than it used to be.

Typically, suspension modifications such as a lift kit or larger-than-stock tires can cause additional stress on factory components and wear them out. But Skyla didn’t modify her new SUV

Other contributing factors include incorrect wheel alignment, tire balance, improper tire pressure, and loose or damaged suspension components.

There were a few different recalls for 2018 – 2020 Wrangler models due to issues like an improper front track bar bracket weld and a front steering damper that led to the death wobble.

Can you fix the death wobble?

Yes, the Jeep Wrangler death wobble can be fixed. I recommend going to a dealership to properly diagnose the problem because it could be related to worn or loose suspension components, as well as the issues listed above.

To correct the issue, a technician will inspect the suspension and replace broken parts as necessary. Then the tires will be properly aligned. The track bar, ball joints, drag link, tie arms, control arms, and bushings should be inspected.

Some drivers recommend installing a heavy-duty or adjustable tack bar with a spherical joint to enhance steering geometry and strength.
