There are several reasons why criminals may elect to evade a traffic stop. One of the biggest is that they may have committed car theft. This happened recently in Ohio when police officers tried to pull over a person suspected of stealing a Jeep, and he made the misguided decision to run.

He committed car theft and then evaded a traffic stop

According to WFMJ 21 NBC, police officers noticed a Jeep Cherokee on November 12th that they believed to have been involved in a car theft. Additionally, the person driving the vehicle failed to use a turn signal and the police tried to conduct a traffic stop as a result. However, the driver, Seandale Thompkins, 18, refused to pull over for the police officers. He then made matters even worse by leading them on a chase and reaching speeds of 90 miles per hour.

As police officers tried to conduct the traffic stop, they observed the driver running several red lights and committing other traffic violations. Naturally, this obstructed the safety of everyone on the road and could have caused a car accident. Eventually, police officers ended the chase. They then used a drone to help find the driver after they located the abandoned Jeep.

After a while, they found the traffic stop evader hiding behind a tree in a park. He had several key fobs on his person, one of which went to the stolen Jeep. However, he says he found the other fobs on the ground. The driver was arrested for fleeing and eluding, obstruction, and receiving stolen property. He also has multiple traffic citations.
