38-year-old woman is facing time after stealing a car and using it to store meth
There are many ways car theft can happen. Sometimes, private citizens are the victims, but there are also people bold enough to steal from car showrooms. Recently, this is what happened in Hawaii when a used Ford Fusion went missing. It took months, but the police finally made an arrest.
Car theft from dealerships is also a problem
According to Big Island Now, a car theft happened on August 14th this year, and the perpetrator took a used Ford Fusion. The dealership from which the car went missing is called Island Wide Motors. Of course, local law enforcement has been on the case and eventually arrested Lataja Andrade on November 26th for the crime.
However, she’s not only going away for car theft. Of course, the police officers also had a search warrant. After searching the stolen Ford Fusion, they found four grams of meth in a zipped packet. That’s not all, as the police also found multiple syringes, one of which had meth in it. There was also a glass pipe in the used Ford Fusion.
Now, the car theft perpetrator has made a court appearance. She also has a hearing scheduled for December 3rd. The woman is being charged with the following:
- Theft in the first-degree
- Unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle in the first-degree
- Promoting a dangerous drug in the second-degree
- Promoting a dangerous drug in the third-degree
She could be facing some serious time in federal prison for her offenses. This should serve as a cautionary tale for anyone who thinks car theft is a viable option, especially those who plan to target dealership showrooms.
