Let’s face it. Running from the police isn’t a great idea. But some people insist on finding out for themselves, like this Florida man who led police on a 150-mph chase until the cops boxed his white BMW SUV in and arrested him.

A Florida man ended up in handcuffs after a 150 mph police chase

A Florida man in Martin County attempted to run from the authorities earlier in the week. Police tried to stop Edward Flowers in his white BMW SUV after receiving reports that Flowers was driving recklessly.

Those reports seem correct, given Flowers’ response to the officers trying to pull him over. He gunned the SUV, reaching speeds over 150 mph in an attempt to lose the police on the dark highway.

Flowers exited the highway, thinking he had given FHP the slip. He was mistaken. FHP officers found Flowers’ white BMW once more, chasing him briefly. But the BMW was too quick; FHP called off the chase on the ground.

But that didn’t stop an FHP helicopter from tracking Flowers as he fled. Again, the suspect seemed to think he had successfully lost the police. He pulled into a 7-Eleven, where officers pulled up and boxed him in. FHP arrested Flowers, who was driving on a suspended license, and charged him for fleeing and excessive speeding under Florida’s new “super speeder” law.

His speed blows the parameters of Florida’s new ‘super speeder’ law away

Flowers hit some serious triple-digit speeds during the chase. But even if he wasn’t running from the police at those staggering speeds, he would have violated Florida’s new no-nonsense speeding laws and then some.

According to Florida’s “super speeder” law, any motorist driving at 100 mph or more is susceptible to criminal charges, not just a hefty fine for a moving violation. That’s right; drive 101 mph, end up going to jail for up to 30 days. And that’s just for a first offense.

It’s not just triple-digit speedometer readings, either. Any motorist exceeding the posted speed limit by 50 mph is open to the same consequences. Although it seems like a pretty straightforward task to keep your speed below 80 mph in a 30 mph zone.
