Elderly woman has a $400k bond after causing a hit-and-run that resulted in the death of an 87-year-old
Car wrecks occur every day, and some result in fatalities. Even worse is that many of these are hit-and-run collisions, which result in a felony if police ever catch the driver. Recently, police arrested one woman for this type of car accident that happened late last year in West Hartford, Connecticut. She and her legal representation feel they have reason to believe the accident wasn’t her fault.
The woman is facing a felony charge for the hit-and-run that left someone else dead
According to WFSB, Patricia Brulotte, 87, was involved in an accident where a vehicle hit her in November 2024. That vehicle remained on the scene. Unfortunately, another driver struck her while she was on the scene. This time, the person behind the wheel was Sue Deffenbaugh, 84, and she left the scene of the crime. The victim sadly passed away the following day.
Now, after months of the police investigating, Sue is facing a felony charge for the hit-and-run. Her attorney, William Gerace, said, “This lady’s 84 years old. She never got a traffic ticket.” Her attorney says that it was dark at the time of the accident and that the victim had been jaywalking and wearing black, making it hard to see her. The attorney continued, “The person’s body rolled off the other car. My client was coming in the opposite direction, and the rear portion of her car came into contact with the deceased.”
Regarding this felony hit-and-run, the accused drove over the victim’s head and body after the initial collision. The first driver isn’t currently facing any charges in the matter. The latest is that Sue recently faced a judge for the first time. They held her in jail for two hours on a $400,000 bond.
