Drivers engage in several dangerous activities. However, driving under the influence is easily one of the worst, as it causes several fatal car wrecks each year. Recently, a man caused an accident in Florida, and it is believed that this was the reason for it. Now, he’s facing a DUI charge, among other things, for the crime of getting behind the wheel before drinking, as well as his actions after.
He had prior instances of driving under the influence on other occasions
According to Fox 13 News, officers from the Lakeland Police Department responded to a call about a car wreck on April 19th at around 4 a.m. Notably, a man in a truck had hit another vehicle on the 600 block of Bay Street. They didn’t know at the time, but this is said to have been the result of a man, Juan Francisco, driving under the influence. Once on the scene, they witnessed him drinking a beer in the truck. The truck was running at the time.
Police said that the man, who had been driving under the influence, did not open the door right away. Instead, he continued drinking his beer as though he were sitting at a bar or at home. Once they were able to get in, the officers put the truck in park and found five other beer bottles. The driver then informed them that he had three prior DUI charges, and the officers were able to verify this information.
Like many people suspected of driving under the influence, the driver refused various sobriety tests. Still, the report says he had slow speech and watery eyes. They also noticed the odor of alcohol. Now, he not only has his fourth DUI charge, but he has charges for driving with a suspended license and refusing DUI tests.
