Car theft is one of those crimes that everyone is aware of, but few people believe it will actually impact them. Still, it happens to millions of people, and this crime often involves serial perpetrators. This happened recently in Delaware, and now a 46-year-old woman is behind bars for car theft and committing other crimes. Luckily, there are ways drivers can protect their vehicles in these instances.

Car theft isn’t the only crime she’s being charged with

Most people think of car theft as being a one-and-done crime. However, this isn’t always the case as the people behind the robberies are often using the vehicles for other criminal activity. Of course, this crime also includes people stealing items from cars. According to the Newark Post Online, the Delaware State Police recently arrested Christina Cerroni, 46, for several vehicle thefts between late September and December 29th. These instances of theft are said to have happened in Newark and Wilmington.

Regarding the car theft instances, the cars Christina targeted were all left unlocked. Still, her crimes don’t end with automobiles. The police also accused the woman of stealing from various stores in a local mall. The police say the woman stole over $1,000 worth of merchandise. Notably, law enforcement had an active warrant for the lady, but they were unable to locate her until December 30th.

Police found the car theft suspect after being called to a casino about a disorderly woman who refused to leave. This was Christiana, but she initially provided the officers with a fake name. Of course, they soon uncovered her true identity and took her into custody. Now, she’s facing multiple charges, including five counts of motor vehicle theft, five counts of shoplifting, public intoxication, etc. She was unable to make a $2,000 cash bond at the time of initial reporting.

As a note to readers, leaving a vehicle unlocked makes it a target for people looking to commit car theft. Of course, this includes people stealing your car as well as those who may only look for items inside the vehicle they can take. Locking your vehicle doesn’t always stop theft, but it makes the crime much more challenging.
