A thief reportedly nabbed Charlize Theron’s BMW. No, they didn’t use some technological trickery. This wasn’t some elaborate con. They just started it up and drove away.
The LAPD reports that on a Thursday, the thief walked through an open gate and onto Theron’s property. Then they simply started the car because the key fob was sitting inside. Police reported they’ve recovered the vehicle.
The crime presumably took place at the farmhouse-style mansion she bought in the Colfax Meadows neighborhood of Studio City in winter 2024. The $3.8 million property is right on the street, with a two-car garage and short driveway. It did not have a fence or gate when she bought it, so she must have installed the security measures later.
The Oscar-winning actress starred in Mad Max: Fury Road. She’s also starred in multiple car films, such as The Italian Job and has a standing role as the main villain of the Fast and Furious franchise. The unfortunate story goes to show that even the most advanced automotive security technology only works if you use it.
