Many car owners have AAA and other roadside assistance services. Of course, they can come in handy in many situations, even if it’s just to get people to auto mechanics. However, there are things some may not know about these services, and one mechanic is sounding the alarm for how they handle changing the battery in your car.

Auto mechanics are warning against the batteries AAA and other services use

Getting roadside assistance is one of the best ways to ensure you’re never stranded for too long. This is a service that serves many purposes, including changing the battery in your car. However, a mechanic who posts to TikTok under the name EliteVoiceTV is issuing a warning about the service. He says that when they change your car’s battery, they often use incompatible units.

Essentially, he’s not discouraging the use of these services, but he says that they often use whatever options they have with them at the time. This means it may be a much smaller battery in terms of voltage than your vehicle actually requires. While it may start up and run normally, it could cause electrical issues down the road. Of course, other auto mechanics have said similar things about when having AAA change the battery in your car.

In the video, he then gave an example of potential damage. Someone had brought a vehicle in, and the electronic power steering rack had shorted out due to continued use with the wrong batter. He goes on to say that having them change your battery is fine, but the one they install should be temporary.
