North Carolina police recently uncovered $1.2 million worth of stolen luxury cars and a chop shop
Car theft can occur in several ways. Often, it’s a singular event that can lead to many public safety issues. Other times, this crime is connected to a much larger operation and could include car showrooms or auto mechanic shops. North Carolina police recently conducted a traffic stop and found over $1 million worth of stolen luxury cars and a chop shop. Naturally, they arrested the suspect.
The police didn’t expect to uncover this level of car theft
According to WBTV, a police officer in Monroe, North Carolina, was on patrol duty when they noticed a speeding vehicle. The officer then pulled the car over for a traffic stop, which the driver complied with. This interaction happened on April 8th at around seven in the morning along West Franklin Street. It’s reasonable to assume that the officer on the scene wasn’t expecting to uncover significant car theft during the stop, but officers are prepared to encounter anything.
Naturally, the traffic stop began as most do. The officer collected identifying information about the driver as well as the vehicle he was driving. However, it was then determined that the vehicle had been involved in a car theft in Orlando, Florida, in 2021. This led to the man, Stefan Huewe, 56, being arrested for the stolen car. However, things only worsened as the police learned more.
Following the arrest for car theft, the police department continued to investigate. They learned that the man owned Allpro Fleet & Auto Services. From there, they obtained a search warrant, which led them to find $1,250,000 worth of stolen luxury cars as well as a chop shop at the location. Now, he’s facing several charges. They include but are not limited to possessing a stolen motor vehicle, displaying a fictitious registration plate, speeding, and felony chop shop activity. He has been released from jail for the time being.
