Dealing with a car recall can be challenging for car owners or automakers. However, some situations are worse than others. This is the case with a story coming out of Houston, where one Ford EcoSport owner was left stranded after her SUV broke down, and Ford doesn’t have the fix ready yet. The lady is a single mother and wasn’t offered a loaner or rental car.

Dealing with this car recall has been a nightmare

The idea of a car recall isn’t foreign to many owners. However, most people don’t expect to be stranded for several weeks after a vehicle breaks down when an automaker has issued a recall. According to Click 2 Houston, this happened to Devra Singer in Houston, Texas. Her Ford EcoSport broke down about three and a half weeks ago due to engine issues related to a recent recall.

The Ford SUV was towed to a dealership, and it took them about a month to diagnose the issue. According to Devra, “I was on the Westpark tollway, and I broke down there. They knew it was engine failure to this recall, but only they had to get the official diagnosis.” Despite an active car recall, Ford has said that the fix for the engine issues won’t be available until early 2025.

Since the Ford EcoSport broke down, the Houston-based lady has been without a vehicle. Additionally, she’s still making payments on the car despite there not being a fix for the recall. She told the news outlet, “I have to get to work, and I had to get my son to school. I need a vehicle in Houston. No rental car, no loaner. I was just on this waiting list that they kept changing daily. I never got a rental car in three and a half weeks.”

There is an interim fix for the car recall. However, neither the car owner nor the dealership were aware of it. Luckily, once the press contacted the dealership, they offered her a rental car. Now, she has to wait for her beloved Ford EcoSport to be fixed.
