Matthew Skwarczek started blogging in 2015 and focuses his writing on motorcycles and engineering science. A graduate of Northwestern University, where he earned his Master’s in Chemical Engineering, Matthew served as an applications engineer for BASF before joining MotorBiscuit in 2019.
In Matthew’s words, the visceral nature of riding requires you to be in the moment. Combined with his fascination in the analytics surrounding the building and designing of cars and bikes, both modern and classic, you’ll find his voice blends functionality and phenomena. He rides motorcycles and bicycles often, photographing them as well.
Matthew has contributed to Oppositelock and is now an alumnus. He plays Dungeons & Dragons and reads sci-fi and fantasy in his spare time, and appreciates the works of Peter Egan, Sam Smith, Brandon Sanderson, and Alex Goy.
With an engine (sort of) borrowed from the Civic Type R, the Honda Accord 2.0T is a surprisingly quick sedan. While it’s not quite as fast as the actual Type R, it’s fleeter than the Toyota Camry TRD. But what happens when it faces an actual sports car, like the Ford Mustang EcoBoost? YouTube team …
With a variety of excellent convertibles on the market, it’s relatively easy to get behind the wheel of a drop-top. But even if you buy a cheap one like the Miata, saving money during car shopping is rarely a bad idea. And whether you buy new or used, convertible or not, getting the timing right …
With the 400Z’s promising design, it seems Nissan is rediscovering its affordable performance side. This is great news, as the Japanese brand has a history of fun hits outside of the Skyline GT-R. For example, there was the AWD Pulsar GTi-R and the Corvette-slaying 300ZX. And there was also the car that’s today’s Cars and …
Today, the Miata and its Fiat counterpart are your best choices when it comes to lightweight convertible sports cars. However, cut back to a decade ago, and they had some major competition in the form of the Honda S2000. As with other Fast and Furious star cars, S2000 values have been on the rise. But …
The Mustang EcoBoost is proof that Ford’s sports car doesn’t necessarily need a V8 to be fun. Especially with its optional High Performance Package. But turbocharged four-cylinders have long been the purview of hot hatches. And, in the case of the Volkswagen Jetta GLI, hot sedans. So, which is faster? Throttle House decided to find …
The Mustang EcoBoost, even without a V8, shows there’s plenty of life in Ford’s rear-wheel-drive sports car platform. However, when it comes to high-performance four-cylinder cars, the Subaru WRX looms large thanks in part to AWD. But which is really the faster car? That’s what Throttle House wanted to find out. The 2020 Ford Mustang …
Courtesy of models like the Himalayan, Royal Enfield is gaining steam as a purveyor of affordable motorcycles. But not all of its bikes are offered in the US, nor are all of its accessories. At least, not yet. Recently, Royal Enfield unveiled a new bike, the Meteor 350. And said bike comes with an interesting …
There are a number of fuel-efficient vehicles available in Honda dealerships, including some SUVs (well, crossovers). But just because a vehicle has a good EPA fuel economy rating, that doesn’t mean it can easily achieve it in the real world. Such is the case with the Honda HR-V. The Honda HR-V is an inconsistently-efficient SUV …
Here in the US, the Yaris hatchback serves—or rather, served—as Toyota’s cheapest car. But its strengths don’t include performance. So Gazoo Racing, the Japanese automaker’s performance division, stepped in to correct that. In doing so, it created the Toyota GR Yaris, an all-wheel-drive throwback to the brand’s rally days. It’s not coming to the US—but …
Even though they’re crossovers, not body-on-frame SUVs, Honda’s ‘SUV’ lineup includes some fairly fuel-efficient models. At least, that’s what their EPA ratings claim. But vehicles don’t always meet those claims in the real world. However, sometimes they can match or even exceed them. And some of those vehicles are Honda SUVs. Why is it hard …
Overall build quality used to be what separated luxury cars from the rest of the automotive world. Not just the materials themselves, but how well everything was screwed together so nothing fell off. That’s why many classic luxury cars are still held in high regard, due to their perceived reliability. And sometimes, the perception is …
While the 1500 TRX has certainly captured desert runners’ attention, it’s not the only off-road-ready Ram truck available. Ram also offers the Power Wagon, based on the heavy-duty 2500 pickup. 2021 marks the ‘Power Wagon’ nameplate’s 75th anniversary. And to help celebrate the occasion, Ram’s giving it a touch of the TRX. From Dodge to …
Luxury doesn’t have to be expensive these days, which is a boon for those going car shopping. However, as luxury cars get cheaper, they start to butt up against the higher trim levels of more mainstream models. In some cases, for example, the Toyota Avalon and Lexus ES, the non-luxury car uses some of the …
With its $49,900 base price, the 2021 Toyota Sienna Platinum is fairly expensive for a minivan. However, it’s not the most expensive Toyota-badged vehicle you can buy today. In fact, some of the Japanese automaker’s most luxurious products, like the Toyota Century, aren’t offered in the US. And that includes the Toyota Alphard, a minivan …
While its newest models come with quite a few restrictions, many older Ferraris find themselves being used for all sorts of projects. Some builds, like Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera’s Aero 3, give the donor Ferrari a full re-skin. Others, though, focus on transplanting the Italian powertrain into more mundane cars. And one of these builds, the …
With the 2021 Sienna Platinum’s $50k base price, Toyota’s range-topping minivan has an almost luxury-car-level price tag. However, ever since the LS400 debuted in the 90s, if US shoppers wanted a luxury Toyota product, the answer has been Lexus. Lexus, though, doesn’t have a minivan. At least, not in the US. Overseas shoppers can pick …
Torque wrenches and screwdrivers aren’t the only tools you need for maintenance work these days. Modern vehicles’ sensors and various electronics require their own equipment, one that automakers aren’t always willing to give out. Hence why the fight for the ‘right to repair’ is so vital. And it’s a fight that Massachusetts voters recently settled—at …
A key part of getting your car ready for winter is making sure all the necessary maintenance is complete. But we’re not talking just about involved tasks like oil changes and timing belt replacement. There are a number of small and seemingly minor maintenance tasks that, if not completed, can cause anything from bouts of …
As turbulent as the last few months and years have been for Harley-Davidson, some of the company’s long-term plans are starting to come to life. For example, the long-teased Pan America adventure bike is coming in 2021. But there’s one more product that’s about to hit the road: an e-bike. It’s called the Harley-Davidson Serial …
If you’re looking for an off-road-ready pickup truck, it’s hard to compete with the Jeep Gladiator. Especially now that, in addition to the rock-crawling Rubicon, there’s now the dune-jumping Mojave. And just like the Wrangler it’s based on, the Gladiator is a popular platform for customization. Jeep itself has released a few Gladiator concepts, including …
