Holy moly, I have to investigate what happened. The 2024 Ram 1500 was the most reliable full-size truck available. However, the 2025 Ram 1500 received a much lower rating. What caused it to drop so hard?

The 2025 Ram 1500 has a declining reliability rating

I was reviewing reliability rankings for full-size trucks to prepare information just in time for those end-of-the-year sales. However, the change in how reliable the Ram 1500 is year-over-year has me shook.

According to J.D.Power, the 2024 model has a reliability score of 89 out of 100, which is great. This score is incredibly high. It’s above-average, and I hardly come across anything with a score higher than 86.

However, the 2025 Ram 1500 has a reliability score of 77. That’s an average rating, so it’s not bad. It just suffered a 12-point drop.

J.D.Power ranks vehicles for reliability based on owner feedback. Surveys are sent to drivers, allowing them to report any problems they may have faced, from minor electronic problems to total transmission failure.

But perhaps Ram’s mid-cycle refresh is to blame. The beloved 5.7-liter V8 engine with 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque and supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine with 702 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque were dropped.

In 2025, the truck got the new Hurricane engine. It’s a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six cylinder unit. The Standard Output variant provides 420 hp and 469 lb-ft of torque. The High Output Variant delivers 540 hp and 521 lb-ft of torque.

This new engine must not be holding up as well, which is fine. Stellantis already brought the 5.7-liter V8 back for 2026.
