Hopefully, you can’t smell what this Chevrolet SUV is cooking. A woman is desperate to find a solution for a potent 2021 Chevy Tahoe problem. Her local dealership doesn’t know what’s wrong, but maybe someone can help.

Why does the 2021 Chevy Tahoe smell like mold?

TikTok user and 2021 Chevy Tahoe owner, @cheyennetxmama, wants to know if you own a 2021 Chevy Tahoe and if it smells like mold.

Because her SUV stinks, and she wonders if she is the only one experiencing this problem. Every morning when she turns the AC on, it smells like mold for 20 minutes. The mildew odor is like wet clothes that have been in a washing machine for weeks.

She claims that she didn’t do anything to the SUV and that she keeps it clean. But the smell is everywhere. The stench is worse on rainy and humid days, and those are very common in Texas.

Cheyenne called her local dealership, but technicians failed to offer any advice. They didn’t know what could be causing the problem, but they offered to look at it. The process would take a week, and they don’t have a loaner available.

So, if you’ve experienced this issue, how did you fix it? I’ve reached out to cheyennetxmama to see if she’s solved the problem and what the solution was.

Does the Tahoe have a mildew problem?

2021 Chevy Tahoe models equipped with the available sunroof are prone to leaking. Water comes through the seal and drips into the cabin.

This can soak carpeting and upholstery, allowing moisture to build up. As a result, you can get mold. Also, the OnStar button on the roof may leak.

Air conditioning problems can also encourage mold growth if there is a leak or buildup of moisture where air enters the HVAC system.

Also, you might just need to change your cabin air filter.

How to get rid of mold in your car

If your car smells like mildew, then you probably have some mold growing. It helps to leave your windows open to bring in fresh air as the upholstery dries out.

Use a disinfectant spray on the intake vents to kill bacteria.

Replace the air filter in your cabin with a charcoal-activated filter for improved odor absorption.

Go to a dealership and explain the problem to a technician so they can check for compromised seals or access areas like the evaporator case.
