I know I’m not the only one shocked by how expensive vehicles are getting. If you want something new and affordable, it might be better to consider a foreign brand. Only two American automakers offer SUVs for under $30,000.
American SUVs for under $30,000
If you want an American SUV for under $30,000 in 2026, you’ll have to consider models by Chevrolet and Buick. Both are under the General Motors brand. Otherwise, there are Korean and Japanese options available.
The 2026 Chevy TrailBlazer is a compact SUV that has an MSRP of $24,395. You can also go down in size with the 2026 Chevy Trax. This compact SUV has an MSRP of $22,995.
Plus, the 2025 Chevy Equinox has an MSRP of $28,700, but its $1,795 destination fee increases the starting price to $30,495.
Next, the 2026 Buick Enivista is a subcompact SUV that starts at $26,400. The larger 2026 Buick Encore GX has an MSRP of $27,895, but the $1,795 destination fee increases the starting price to $29,690.
The 2026 Ford Escape has an MSRP of $30,350. It’s the cheapest SUV in the lineup. But the 2026 Ford Maverick has an MSRP of $28,145. Adding the $$1,695 destination fee increases the starting price to $29,840.
According to Stellantis, the 2026 Jeep Compass has an MSRP of $30,990. Then the 2026 Dodge Hornet is expected to start around $32,000. Unless the Hornet is discontinued, as production is currently paused due to tariffs.
The 2026 GMC Terrain has an MSRP of $31,895, and Chrysler doesn’t offer any SUVs. Affordable American options are pretty slim.
