Something about a used Toyota SUV has drivers going nuts to throw their money at it. While this SUV is the most popular model to buy new in the world, it has a high resale value. The used models even outsell other new options in the lineup. 

This used Toyota SUV outsells new models 

Do you know what the most popular used Toyota SUV is? It’s the Toyota RAV4, which also serves as the most popular new SUV. The RAV4 had more worldwide sales than the Ford F-150 in 2024. 

According to a study by iSeeCars, the used RAV has a strong presence in the used market, as it outsells new models in the Toyota lineup. 

The RAV4 accounts for 1.6% of 1- to 5-year-old used-car sales. But this figure excludes the RAV4 Hybrid, which is also very popular. In fact, the 2026 model is exclusively hybrid. 

So, in 2024, roughly 123,200 used RAV4 SUVs were sold. The 2024 Toyota 4Runner sold 92,156 models, and the Prius sold about 44,711 units. Plus, the smaller Toyota Corolla Cross sold about 93,021 models. 

What’s even crazier is how the used RAV4 outsold the entire Lexus lineup. But the iSeeCars study only references models between 1 to 5 years old, so the amount of used SUVs sold could be much higher. 

The RAV4 is likely a popular choice because Toyota has a reputation for reliability. Also, it’s an efficient SUV with a high chance of surpassing 200,000 miles. Plus, it only loses 30.3% of its value during five years of ownership. The average SUV loses about 44.1% of its value.
