Like pack animals, bad decisions tend to exist in groups. If you ever needed evidence of that much, you need only tally the decisions of this drunk wrong-way driver on a Florida highway. If her dangerous actions weren’t enough, she told the police that her husband was driving the car. A husband who wasn’t even in the car.

A 24-year-old wrong-way drunk driver side-swiped a police car before cops PIT’d her

It’s a serious situation. A drunk, wrong-way driver speeds against the flow of traffic while police try to keep her from injuring other motorists. In this case, 24-year-old Kristian Beall was hurtling down a Florida highway in her Toyota Camry against a backdrop of headlights as she drove in the wrong direction. She even struck an oncoming police car as it attempted to block her dangerous driving.

Fortunately, Tampa police officers and FHP troopers were able to PIT maneuver her, causing her to spin out. They then blocked her from fleeing and moved in. The bewildered driver attempted to exit via the driver’s side door, but the Camry’s door was too damaged.

Once the officers on the scene coached her to get out on the other side, they began questioning her. “Do you realize you’re going the wrong way on the interstate?” one officer asked.

Troublingly, Beall seemed confused. “On this interstate?” she asked. “This car? Are you serious?” Yikes. Not exactly confidence-inspiring.

She blamed her husband for the event, even though he wasn’t in the car

Here’s the wildest part: the wrong-way driver tried telling police officers that her husband was at the wheel. “My husband was driving us home,” Beall told the cops at the scene.

“No,” one officer responded. “You’re driving home.” Still, she insisted that she wasn’t alone in the car. “No, no, no, I was in the passenger seat,” she responded.

As if for good measure, one of the officers at the scene checked with another. “There’s no one else in the car,” they said. All silliness aside, this could have been much worse.

Beall failed her field sobriety test. And when officers breathalyzed her, she initially blew a 0.199 and a 0.202 after the fact, both well over the Florida legal limit of 0.08.
