‘It’s really irritating’ The worst parts of owning a Ford Maverick after 8,000 miles
Are you on the fence about the Ford Maverick? It’s always smart to do your research before committing to a new truck. Here’s a review of what life is really like with the tiny truck after 8,000 miles to help your decision.
Life with the Ford Maverick after six months
TikTok user and 2024 Ford Maverick XL owner, @austin_texan, is sharing what he loves and hates about his little truck. He has owned it in Texas for about six months and put 8,000 miles on it.
First, he goes over a few upgrades he installed. He didn’t look the way the standard steel wheels looked, but the new wheels look great. Then he got a hard tonneau cover to keep the water out of the bed.
Next, the interior could be improved with leather upholstery and all weather mats. He added a center console cover and seat back storage for his five year old.
Austin is frustrated by the auto start and stop system. The engine turns off at stop lights and there is a button to turn the feature off, but he forgets to turn it off pretty often. Also, he wishes the truck had a physical gear shifter instead of a dial.
Then he shared that the automatic high beams don’t always adjust to oncoming traffic. Not having a gas cap is weird, and the tank doesn’t lock.
He likes that the truck is spacious and comfortable. He says his family of four fits comfortably for road trips. Then, as a 6 foot man, he has room in the backseat. However, at 5’1” I felt like I couldn’t stretch out back there.
The upholstery is durable and stain-resistant with plenty of storage. Plus, his truck tows his 16-foot trailer perfectly fine. The tech has physical controls and doesn’t rely heavily on the touch screen.
Last but not least, the bed is bigger than you think. It can fit plywood sheets with plenty of space for tools and more.

How much can the Ford Maverick tow?
The Maverick can tow up to 4,000 lbs with the gas engine and available 4K Tow Package. You can only tow up to 2,000 lbs with the Maverick Hybrid.
I know that Austin has the gas-powered model because he mentions having the tow package and AWD. The Maverick Hybrid couldn’t be paired with AWD until 2025.
How much passenger space does the Maverick have?
The Maverick provides up to 100.3 cubic feet of passenger volume. There is 42.8 inches of legroom in the front and 35.9 inches in the rear.
With the Toyota Tacoma, you get 41.8 inches of legroom in the front and 33.7 inches in the back. While the front Tacoma has less room to stretch out, it does have a taller roofline and more space in the rear.
