The Tesla Cybertruck is lacking in the subtlety department. Although Tesla has sold nearly 50,000 Cybertrucks since the first deliveries, seeing one in the wild is still something of an event. As such, the 7,000-lb pickup truck attracts attention when it gets stuck in shallow water.

A TikTok video shows a Tesla Cybertruck getting stuck in 18 inches of water just after Elon Musk says it could float

A popular video on TikTok shows a Tesla Cybertruck wading through fast-moving water. At first, the Cybertruck seems undeterred by the shallow waters. However, moments later, the hulking electric pickup truck beached itself, stuck with little hope of pulling itself free.

The silly footage follows the science-fiction-esque claims of controversial CEO Elon Musk. “[The] Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat. So it can cross rivers, lakes, and even seas that aren’t too choppy.” Granted, the rushing waters in the video are something that could fall under the term “choppy,” but the depth is far from confidence-inspiring.

In the video, the waterline is nearly at the top of the Cybertruck’s front bumper. That bumper sits at about 18 inches from flat ground to the top of the Tesla pickup truck’s black bumper. Far from the depths of the lakes and seas that the Cybertruck would need to traverse to make good on the claims.

Conversely, Ford says the F-150 Lightning is sealed enough to handle up to 24 inches of water. Then again, the F-150 Lightning doesn’t have sea-faring ambitions. At least, Ford CEO Jim Farley hasn’t come out to say that much.

This isn’t the first time that water has bested a Cybertruck on video, either. Earlier this month, a Cybertruck sank into Ventura Harbor in California after attempting to launch jet skis on the ramp. However, the Ventura misadventure required firefighters, recovery crews, and even a US Coast Guard diver to rectify.
