Watch this driver accidentally drown his $30K Chevrolet Tahoe while trying to launch his boat
It’s one of the most substantial sources of stress for boaters everywhere. We’re talking about the boat launch, a gathering of people watching a person either masterfully or clumsily back a boat and trailer into the water to release their water-faring toys. Of course, clumsy is nothing compared to straight-up drowning a Chevrolet Tahoe at a busy launch.
This Chevrolet Tahoe owner learned exactly how not to launch a boat
Typically, when you use a boat launch, you back your trailer straight down the ramp and stop when you see the boat’s stern begin floating. Conversely, if you’re feeling destructive, you could reverse your SUV, trailer, and boat straight into the lake.
In a popular social media video, a black fourth-generation Chevrolet Tahoe does its best James Bond car impression by attempting to disappear beneath the waves. Unfortunately, it turns out the Tahoe doesn’t have a Lake Tahoe or submarine setting. And the driver certainly wasn’t Mr. Bond.
In the video, the black Tahoe bobs around alongside the deck, still attached to the trailer and boat. Interestingly enough, the driver was still trying to steer the Tahoe while the rear of the SUV was floating and the front-end was almost completely submerged.
Once the group realized how futile it was to try and drive the Chevrolet Tahoe out of the water, one of the men attached a tow rope to the SUV’s front bumper. Then it was a matter of pulling the vehicle out of its predicament and back onto dry land.
It took a team of boaters and a Ford Power Stroke pickup truck to pull the Chevy SUV from the water
As you can imagine, it takes some effort to drag a 5,602-lb SUV out of the water. That’s where a big, torquey diesel pickup truck comes in handy.
The men attached the tow rope to the hitch of the Ford Power Stroke and pulled the Tahoe back up the boat launch ramp. But the damage was done. The men opened the doors, releasing a surge of water. Yikes. Check out the video for yourself below!
