[Video] Watch this Florida driver shoot police officers with fireworks in a holiday drive-by
It’s the holidays. That means bright lights and eye-catching decorations just about everywhere you look. In some cases, it might even mean fireworks. However, for one Florida driver, the holiday season was the perfect time to shoot volleys of fireworks at police officers on a busy street.
A driver in a dark SUV painted police cars with fireworks by shooting them from their driver’s side window
A Florida highway turned into a scene from “Star Wars” as police cruisers with bright emergency lights chased a dark SUV into the night. However, the police car’s lights and sirens weren’t the brightest things on the highway for long. The driver retracted his driver’s side window and proceeded to shoot a continuous volley of fireworks at the nearest police car.
To the uninitiated, it looks like a much more dangerous barrage than celebratory fireworks. In the video capturing the event, the poster suggested that this is what “Christmas lights in Florida be like.” One commenter joked that the move was a “He’s just spreading that holiday cheer!” Another labeled it “Holly jolly drive-by.”
While it looks pretty cool, the stream of fireworks could have caused some serious damage. For starters, wayward shots can enter other vehicles through open windows. In fact, fireworks start around 300 or so car fires every year, per the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). Moreover, an ill-fated device could also start potentially deadly structure, brush, or field fires.
Now, depending on how long the SUV driver took to pull over, they’re looking at a litany of nasty charges. For starters, police may charge the driver with reckless driving and aggravated assault. Beyond driving charges, Floridians can use fireworks without a permit for just three days of the year: January 1st, July 4th, and December 31st. Permit or not, I’m sure the police have some choice words for the fireworks-slinging SUV driver.
