Some light road rage: Video shows car intentionally hitting a vehicle for repeatedly flashing high beams
A viral video with nearly 1.2 million likes shows the moment that seemingly harmless volley of flashing high beams resulted in disaster. After a passing car repeatedly flashed its brights, the camera car drove across the center divider to hit it head-on. And the offending car’s dash cam caught the whole thing, from flash to crash.
A dash cam video shows the moment a driver hits another car head-on for flashing their high beams too many times
I have a love-hate relationship with high beams. On the one hand, they’re incredibly useful. And, I’ll admit, I have excellent headlight discipline. On the other hand, though, an oncoming driver who doesn’t dip their high beams can all but blind you on an inky black road. You know, when you need unobstructed vision most. But a mild annoyance is no reason to slam into an oncoming car head-on.
This dash cam video shows a driver cruising next to the double line that divides a highway. In the closest oncoming lane, a vehicle repeatedly flashes its high beams at the camera car. Now, a glimpse down at the pavement ahead of the dash cam car reveals that the camera car itself has its high beams on, if not a very bright set of headlights.
A moment later, the dash cam-equipped vehicle spears across the double line and into the oncoming car. The camera captures the offending car spinning, the sounds of an almost-certainly totaled car crumpling, and a shot of shattered glass.
Now, it’s likely that the oncoming car was irritated at the brightness of the camera car’s lights. After all, the lights ahead of the vehicle with the dash cam were much brighter than the nearby motorcycle or other oncoming cars in the shot. But short of a tragic medical emergency, there is absolutely no reason to hit another car head-on.
Understandably, some commenters were less-than-sympathetic with the camera car. “Overreaction is an understatement,” one viewer replied on the popular social media video. “I wish I could do this to some people on the road,” another commenter replied. “This guy’s really living my dream.” Check out the short video for yourself below!
