Postal employees deal with a lot. Terrible motorists, cratered road surfaces, adverse conditions, ill-placed trash bins, unruly dogs, you name it. But that doesn’t quite excuse the recent actions of a Florida USPS driver. She reportedly stopped at a house party along her route to do shots with her friends. And police put her in handcuffs for it.

Florida police arrested a USPS driver for a DUI on video after the carrier stopped for shots at a house party

Katelyne Dye, 33, was on her mail route through Melbourne, Florida. Nothing out of the ordinary there. However, Dye reportedly stopped to talk to some people at a home along her route. The interaction evidently went well enough; the occupants invited Dye inside for a drink. Or two.

Authorities say the USPS driver had two shots of vodka at the house party before returning to her truck. She then headed back out onto her route, but the alcohol had done its work. She allegedly swerved across lanes of traffic, tossing out plastic cups as she did. More troublingly, Dye was driving on the wrong side of the road at times. However, it didn’t take long for police to pull the party animal over.

The police officers who pulled Dye over said the 33-year-old mail carrier looked “confused and disoriented” when they interacted with her, per the New York Post. That and her wild driving antics were more than enough reason to give Dye a sobriety test. As expected, the USPS driver didn’t do well in the tests. Police found her to be “under the influence,” according to a police affidavit after the fact.

Melbourne police officers arrested her for a misdemeanor DUI. Now, the USPS itself says that a “pending driving under the influence” charge is a typical disqualifier for potential employees looking to break into the mail delivery scene. She’s already out of jail, but her future with the postal service isn’t guaranteed.

One thing is for sure: it’s difficult to hear about your car’s extended warranty when the USPS driver gets arrested for a DUI. Check out a video of the DUI arrest below!
