Did you know that where you live can affect which used car models offer the best value? According to an analysis of tens of thousands of local used car listings for the most popular models, it’s true.

An analysis of 299,089 used car listings for the most popular models across America, comparing local prices with the national average, has identified the best-value used car models in every state and major city. What the study, conducted by online lender NetCredit, found is that Ford models ranked as the best-value used cars in 12 states, the most for any manufacturer.

In the big picture, 16 states offer savings of more than 5% compared to the national average price if you pick the right used car model, including three with savings of over 10%. On the flip side, 17 states had no popular used car model that cost below the national average.

Overall, the greatest saving at the state level is the purchase of a Ford F-150 in North Dakota, where the local average price is 12.24% below the national average. Other great savings can be found in Florida, where a used Toyota Corolla costs 10.87% less than the national average, and in Utah, where the best bargain is the Ford Maverick at 10.81% below the national average.

The state where it is the most difficult to find a deal on a used car is Hawaii. In the Aloha State, a Ford F-150 costs 9.02% more than the national average – and that is still the most favorable used car price for local buyers.
