UPS Starts 2026 by Slashing 30,000 Jobs
New year, new layoffs. UPS is kicking off 2026 by cutting 30,000 jobs. Now drivers have to go job searching, and tons of trucks will be left empty. Overall, the company is still trying to turn things around while reducing Amazon shipments.
UPS decides to cut 30,000 jobs in 2026
I feel for the 30,000 people losing their jobs as UPS.inc cuts operational positions. The delivery company is trying to become more profitable and less dependent on Amazon shipments.
Chief Financial Officer Brian Dykes shares that job cuts will be made via a voluntary buyout offer for full-time drivers and through attrition.
The company spent 2025 reducing amazon volume by about 1 million pieces per day while focusing on higher profit areas, such as healthcare customers.
It looks like more packages are about to come through those massive Amazon electric vans instead of iconic brown trucks. Plus, 24 buildings will be closed during the first half of the year.
According to Truck News, UPS cut 34,000 operational positions in 2025 and 14,000 job cuts that were mostly management positions.
Plus, the company is retiring its fleet of McDonnell Douglas MD-11 cargo airplanes following the deadly crash in Kentucky last November. The grounded planes account for about 9% of the fleet.
Revenue per piece in the company’s United States domestic segment rose 8.3% in the fourth quarter of the year. But it had lower volumes. Also, internal revenue per piece increased by 7.1%.
UPS projects a revenue of $89.7 billion in 2026, which is an increase from $88.7 billion in 2025. So fewer employees with an increased profit have been helping with growth.
