‘Twisted Metal’ Season 2 is off with a bang and some seriously weird cars
It took two years, but the TV show adaptation of the hit PlayStation game franchise “Twisted Metal” is back. Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz return for the second season, joined by some new characters and some strange, cartoony cars, including the familiar heavily-armed Chevrolet Camaro and killer ice cream truck.
Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz are back for the new season of ‘Twisted Metal,’ along with some weird and wild rides
Last season, Anthony Mackie’s character, John Doe, parted ways with his beloved-and-bugeyed early 2000s Subaru Impreza WRX. But he moved on from “Evelyn” quickly, trading the Subie for a gun-laden third-generation Chevrolet Camaro.
While sharp-eared viewers will note that the Camaro at times sounds a bit Boxer-engined, Doe and Quiet (Stephanie Beatriz) return in the Camaro, hell-bent on mechanical mayhem.
Car fans may snicker or giggle when they see some of the other early players in the second season, namely a gaggle of wildly modified Volkswagen New Beetles belonging to Dollface’s crew. At least one of the 1998 to 2010 Beetles even swapped miniguns into the voids where headlamps should reside. Twisted, indeed.
The unveiling of new characters also introduced a custom Harley-Davidson Dyna (Reaper) with a rider straight out of the occult, Mr. Grimm. But the Dyna is only the start; the trailer revealed several new vehicles and drivers.
For starters, eagle-eyed viewers can spot an unmarked, machine gun-toting Ford Crown Victoria and an old-school Ford E-100 van cruising alongside Sweet Tooth’s properly evil ice cream truck. You also have what looks like an old step-side pickup truck, likely based on the “Junkyard” wrecker character from the game franchise.
Add a classic Chevrolet El-Camino, an Audi TT, and even a weaponized Chrysler PT Cruiser, and you’ve got the makings of a wild season. Though I doubt anyone will miss that last one should it become a casualty of the game.
