Tulsa Police Find a Car Crashed into Dollar General, but the Owner Was Already in the Hospital
When police arrived at a shattered Dollar General storefront in Tulsa, the wreck made no sense at first glance. The car sat crumpled against broken glass and shelving, but no driver was in sight.
The vehicle belongs to Sarah Sierra-Ruiz of Owasso, Oklahoma. She says her car vanished from outside her home near 86th Street North and 129th East Avenue. In the meantime, she was in the hospital battling septic arthritis.
Security footage from the local Dollar General showed that same car blasting through the store’s entrance
No one was injured, but the store suffered major damage and remains closed.
Tulsa Police say whoever was behind the wheel ran off before officers arrived.
Sierra-Ruiz told News On 6 KOTV the ordeal feels “very violating,” especially since her husband’s welding tools were still inside the car.
With him working long hours to support their three kids, she said the theft hit their household hard. The car wasn’t just transportation. It was part of how her family earned a living.
She’s been in and out of hospitals for the past year and needs a total hip replacement at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. The whole situation means an expense that’s already been tough to manage.
Now, she’s facing another setback while police search for the person responsible for crashing into the Dollar General.
Despite it all, Sierra-Ruiz said she’s trying to keep her outlook steady. “My spirits are still high,” she said, adding that she hopes whoever did this realizes the ripple effect of their choices.
Anyone with information about the crash or the theft is asked to contact Tulsa Police. A GoFundMe has also been set up to help the Sierra family with medical and travel costs while they work to get back on their feet.
