Trump Finally Ends the EPA’s Most Annoying Incentive for Drivers
Most drivers will find that I’m starting this week with good news. President Trump is officially ending one regulation that drivers hate. Seriously, this car feature makes people rant and get red in the face. Now they could be celebrating as this feature for efficiency loses credit.
Trump ends auto start-stop in cars because drivers hate it
Every single time I mention the auto start-stop feature in modern cars, drivers get upset. I’ve found that people can’t stand it. They immediately ask how to disable the feature and if there is a permanent fix.
Because in some SUVs, you have to disable the gas-saving function every time you start the engine. Then people are bothered as the engine shuts off at a red light, and it takes too long to fire back up.
Anyways, Trump is working to put an end to this annoying feature. According to USA Today, Trump is eliminating the credit that automakers receive for installing start-stop buttons. The intended function is to shut off engines while vehicles are idling to save fuel.
Of course, automakers like Ford, Toyota, and Jeep can still use the feature if they want to. But there’s no longer a cash saving incentive to do so.
Toyota first introduced this feature back in 1974. Then, Fiat and Volkswagen jumped on the trend in the 1980s. Others, such as BMW, Ford, Honda, Kia, and Hyundai, adopted the feature in 2012 in exchange for extra emission credits under Obama.
The feature saves between 7.0% and 26% of fuel, but some drivers fear that it harms the battery, engine, and alternator by increasing stress on the car. Modern engines are designed to handle this tech.
However, Trump claims that this feature is universally hated. Upon talking to folks about trucks, cars, and SUVs, I can confirm that drivers can’t stand it.
