Truck Slams Into Overhead Highway Sign in Texas; Driver Says He Was ‘Cut off’ – Video Says Otherwise
Interstate 35 in San Antonio, Texas, was shut down for more than five hours on Saturday morning. The reason? A pickup truck veered off the highway and into the grass, slamming into a massive overhead road sign, causing it to collapse onto the roadway.
The accident occurred near New Braunfels Avenue at around 8:45 a.m. The driver of the gray pickup truck involved in the crash claimed he was “cut off” by another vehicle, according to San Antonio police.
Unfortunately for the truck driver, another person who was also traveling northbound on Interstate 35 at the time captured video of the accident and what led up to it. While the video shows the truck weaving in and out of lanes, no other car cuts the truck off at any point.
The witness who took the video of the bizarre crash in San Antonio explained what he saw
Amador Rodriguez was the driver who shot the video, which has since gone viral. He said he was driving his son to a basketball game Saturday morning when he noticed the gray truck.
“Yeah, it was shocking, but, to be honest, I kind of saw it coming. My gut was telling me it was happening,” he told KENS News. “He just went all the way across the lanes.”
Rodriguez said the truck driver was behaving erratically. That’s when he decided to stay behind the truck and begin recording what was happening. Little did he know that the truck would go off the road and take down a massive overhead highway sign.
“I felt panic,” he said. “I felt a little bit of like, is this thing going to come all the way down? Is it going to stop? The debris fell down a little bit, but I gave it just a little bit of gas just to go.”
The 29-year-old driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and is reportedly expected to be okay.
