I don’t want to offend anyone by assuming things. But I feel like there’s an easier way to avoid Mississippi than destroying the environment. One truck driver allegedly dumped 2,000 gallons of jet fuel across five miles to avoid making the trip.

Truck driver dumps jet fuel in Alabama to avoid going to Mississippi

Hazmat crews, firefighters, and police officers quickly responded to a huge mess around Moundville, Alabama. Police officers shared that a truck driver allegedly dumped 2,000 gallons of jet fuel along a five-mile stretch.

The trucker even dumped the fuel on a bridge over a creek, allowing the fuel to spread into water systems and sensitive ecosystems. One homeowner was distraught over the dark steam of aviation fuel around Powers Loop Road and Johnston Road.

According to WBRC, Alphonso Terry Jr., tried to fuel his tanker up at a gas depot. But the depot said he needed to discharge his current fuel first. The closest place to do that was in Meridian, Mississippi.

So, instead of making the trip, the truck driver let the fuel leak along the side of the road. Luckily the Tuscaloosa Fire HAZMAT team responded immediately.

They prevented the fuel from leaking into creeks and waterways for the public water table. The team is continuing to rock to clean the roadway before rain comes. The fuel could cause adverse effects to groundwater, crops, and wildlife.

Moundville police charged Terry with five counts of spillage and one count of criminal mischief. Maybe he regrets taking a massive five-mile dump.
