[Video] Impatient tractor driver passes, crashes on the highway
Here’s something you don’t see every day: a Massey Ferguson tractor, pulling a trailer, got upset with slow traffic and attempted an aggressive overtake on a divided highway in the U.K. Then things went a little sideways. The tractor driver crashed into the curb between lanes and got in some major trouble.
No, that’s not “tractor” as in semi truck/tractor-trailer. This is a farm tractor hauling a load of shipping pallets. Without any further ado, here’s the video in question:

WTF, what the farm?
I grew up in a small town where farm tractors were a common sight on the main roads. Often, they were simply crossing the street to get from one field to another. They were always moving slower than surrounding traffic, and common etiquette was for the farmer to pull over to let traffic pass after more than two cars were following behind them. Looks like some U.K. farmers are built different.
The machine in question is a Massey Ferguson that I’d say is 80+ horsepower. A tractor like this has a high range and a low range. Unloaded, it could probably rip down a paved road at 45 mph. But I can’t think why you’d want to. This tractor also has no suspension. And it has no differential, so cornering would be a white-knuckle experience at best. It’s not designed to shift on the fly, so you’re stuck in whatever gear you started with, redlining your diesel engine while you race through traffic.
The road in question is a local divided highway. It’s not the equivalent of a big interstate, so it may have had a 45 mph speed limit. There’s a chance all the other cars were following the law, but that wasn’t quick enough for our tractor driver.
Whatever the story, the tractor driver’s impatience didn’t end well. After crashing into the curb, he reportedly “was banned for a year and fined £1,600.”
