Tow truck driver dubs Chevy dealership the ‘local junkyard’ for constantly towing new cars there
Tow Truck Dustin, a Texas tow truck driver, posts videos to his YouTube channel (@Towtruck_Dustin) of interesting cars or trucks he runs into on the clock. He recently towed several brand-new GM gas-powered trucks and cars to a local dealership for a common fuel pump module issue.
The issue is the fuel pump module fails, and can’t send power to the pump. Without power, the pump can’t send fuel to the engine, so the vehicle can’t start. That’s where Dustin comes in. He and his massive, flatbed truck tow the car or truck to the dealership for warranty service.
In a recent video, he drives to a customer’s home for a 2024 Chevy Silverado 2500HD diesel. Dustin said among the hundreds of cars he’s towed to the Chevy dealership, this is the first diesel truck to suffer from the issue.
“The truck’s only got 4,400 miles on it,” the customer said, helping Dustin push the truck into the street. “But the dealership knows it’s coming.”
Dustin said the local Chevy dealership has become a “local junkyard” for him because of how often he’s dropping off dead, brand-new trucks.
Dealership techs fix trucks before they’re off the tow truck
Dustin remarked the dealership sees him so often that technicians have come up with a quick way to perform the warranty fix.
“Technicians fix these fuel pump modules so quickly, the last one I towed in a technician got underneath the truck with a ratchet and a new part and put it on before it was completely off my truck,” Dustin said. “He just drove it away and parked it.”
Dustin’s beef was with General Motors, though. He thinks the company would rather keep up the quick fixes than re-engineer a proven-to-fail part. Especially since he’s towed a few customer’s trucks from the side of the highway.
“I don’t know what the problem with GM nowadays,” he said. “They know there’s a problem, they just can’t find a fix and won’t issue a recall for the part, so they’ll just keep putting people in a bind. Stranding there here, there, and yonder.”
