Your favorite Jeep nut is back with exciting news. The beloved Cherokee is making a return in a big way. However, don’t get hung up on the Jeep Cherokee EV. This SUV offers the freedom of choice.

Don’t be bummed about the Jeep Cherokee EV

So, here’s the thing. The Jeep Cherokee EV will be here soon, but that doesn’t mean you have to go electric to enjoy this historic nameplate. The Cherokee is returning with the freedom of choice.

This means that drivers will have plenty of engine options to choose from. Rumors suggest that gas-powered, hybrid and an electric powertrain are in the works. This SUV isn’t expected to be exclusive as an EV like the Jeep Recon EV.

According to Electrek, the Cherokee is being built on the STLA large platform which supports gas, hybrid, and electric powertrains. The Wagoneer S is an EV that utilizes the same platform and provides 300 miles of range.

It seems like Jeep models will already have a diverse electrified lineup even though interest in EVs is declining, so why would Stellantis crowd the market even more?

What I can confirm is that the new Jeep Cherokee will be larger than the XJ. New images show a boxy SUV that’s taller and longer than before. It has more space between the axles to target the Ford Bronco Sport.

Also, it’s expected to have a unibody design instead of a body-on-frame build. So, it might not be as off-road-ready as its predecessors. But it still maintains the ability to adventure.
