Texas Driver Pulls Out Shotgun Because He Cut Someone Off and They Honked
Saturday morning traffic near FM-529 northwest of Houston, Texas, took a random and uncalled-for violent turn. Police say it started with one driver cutting off another, and ended with a woman injured by shotgun fragments.
According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, three people were traveling east in a red Ford F-150 around 8 a.m.
Suddenly, a man driving another pickup truck allegedly darted into their lane.
So, the F-150 driver honked. That seemed to set the man off.
He swerved in front of them again, slammed his brakes, and both vehicles stopped.
Deputies reported that the 33-year-old driver got out of his vehicle, went to the trunk, pulled out a shotgun, and fired toward the back of the F-150 as it tried to drive off.
A 41-year-old woman in the back seat was struck by shotgun bullet fragments that grazed her head
Investigators said she was taken to a hospital in fair condition and is expected to recover.
The road rager didn’t get far. Deputies said his car broke down entirely shortly after the shooting.
He tried pushing it along the road but was taken into custody nearby.
He faces one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and two counts of deadly conduct, both third-degree felonies.
Oddly, deputies said no shotgun or firearm was found, though evidence from his vehicle was collected.
When questioned, the suspect told deputies he hadn’t cut anyone off
Instead, he claimed that his truck had stalled, which caused the traffic conflict in the first place. Still, car trouble and a harmless honk are no excuse for firing a shotgun at anyone.
