[Video] Cybertruck takes severe damage in viral video, dividing commenters
Everyone knows what a Tesla Cybertruck is. You either love them or venomously hate them, but they’re popular all-electric vehicles. At close to or over $100,000 depending on the configuration, they come packed with technology, 600 horsepower, and loads of controversy.
In a recent video uploaded to YouTube Shorts, a Cybertruck owner who spent ample time modifying theirs, decided to put the lift, larger tires, roof rack, and widened fenders to the test. The owner chose a suburban area as their testing ground and plowed through a plastic fence.
The idea was to showcase how much testosterone the reinforced bumper added to the Cybertruck. As anyone could have guessed, the over 6,000 pound EV made mincemeat out of the fence.
It’s what happened after the EV pulled over to park that the owner and videographer noticed something was wrong.
The Cybertruck took serious damage to critical parts
No one was shocked by the scratches to the stainless steel alloy. However, everyone’s jaw dropped when they discovered cooling fluid spilling all over the concrete. Some of the plastic fence pieces broke off and became lodged into the battery cooling system.
Unfortunately for the owner, Tesla doesn’t sell parts to consumers to repair vehicles themselves. So he’d have to take the Cybertruck to an authorized dealership to have it repaired. There’s nothing solid about how much it would cost to have fixed, as Tesla won’t give service quotes without a VIN, but it can’t be cheap.
Especially since the unique design of the truck is likely to increase labor times.
The comments section was fairly divided
The video had 3,329 comments at the time of the publication, and no one could decide whether or not the owner deserved the online shame.
One person said using a plastic fence as a metric for ruggedness told them all they needed to know.
“This is a great example of more money than brains,” they wrote, earning almost 300 likes.
Another said it spoke volumes about the quality of the truck.
“‘Apocalypse proof truck,’ gets destroyed by plastic,” their comment read.
Several suggested the owner invest in some skid plates to protect the radiator in the future.
“And this is why skid plates are a real thing,” read their comment.
Someone else said while the mistake was unfortunate, others can learn from his mistakes.
“That’s the importance of testing, to correct errors. Show off or not, he saved lives doing this.”
