The Lexus LS is a full-size luxury sedan model produced and sold by the Lexus luxury vehicle division of Toyota. Within the Lexus vehicle catalog’s sedan lineup, the LS is the largest and most expensive option. It is sized and priced above the Lexus IS compact executive car and the Lexus ES midsize executive car.
The Lexus LS (Luxury Sedan/Luxury Saloon) was first released in 1989 and was marketed in Japan as the Toyota Celsior for its first and second generations. Designed as a global flagship vehicle for the new Lexus luxury division, the LS debuted at the 1989 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan, alongside the ES model. Its premiere at the car show won the LS the 1989 Car of the Year Japan Award. Production for both models started shortly after and deliveries of the first-ever Lexus models were carried out before the end of the year.
Now in its fifth generation, the Lexus LS faces stiff competition from other luxury flagship full-size sedan models, including the Audi A8, the BMW 7-Series, the Cadillac CT6, the Genesis G90, and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
