Here’s why stores like Costco and Sam’s Club have cheaper gas prices
Have you ever noticed that large chain stores like Costco and Sam’s Club have cheaper gas prices? Skipping your favorite gas station to visit one of these businesses could help you save on fuel and here’s why.
Why places like Costco and Sam’s Club have lower gas prices
You aren’t crazy if you feel like massive warehouse stores like Sam’s Club or Costco often have cheaper gas prices than your favorite gas stations.
The stores lower the price of fuel on purpose to get drivers in the door or at the pumps. These businesses are willing to sacrifice larger margins to get more people to their locations. So, as gas prices are lower, they don’t make as much money.
However, once people pull up with their cars, they may decide that they want to head in for a quick snack. Then the stores make more money as you buy slides, hotdogs, and even things like 60-count boxes of Hot Pockets.
According to KTLA, gas at warehouse stores is typically between 5 to 25 cents cheaper than it is at local gas stations. When prices increase, these stores often keep their prices down for longer periods.
They use this method to get drivers in the door with all types of fuel, including unleaded, premium, and diesel. However, Costco is the only one that offers Top Tier fuel.
You have probably noticed that a majority of locations offer EV chargers as well. But I’m not sure if it’s cheaper to charge electric vehicles at warehouse stores.
You might need a membership to get fuel at these stores. So, that could take away from the savings at first. But the legendary Costco hotdog might be worth it.
