You may have noticed that Stellantis made a massive commitment to going green with EVs. However, it, along with many automakers, has changed its tune as interest in electric vehicles declines. Therefore, when the Jeep Renegade returns, it won’t be exclusively electric.

The new Jeep Renegade will have multiple powertrains

Based on multiple rumors and previous product plans by Stellantis, the Jeep Renegade was expected to return as a fully electric vehicle. Plus, clues suggested that it could start at $25,000.

Because there currently isn’t a Jeep SUV that starts under $30,000, having something slot under the Jeep Compass would be great.

For the record, the Jeep Cherokee was expected to be fully electric as well. But Stellantis plugged the plug on those plans and launched the Jeep Freedom of Choice strategy.

This means that the 2026 Cherokee is available with a hybrid engine. It will gain PHEV and EV variants later. The same Freedom of Choice idea is being applied to the upcoming Renegade.

We can probably expect a traditional internal combustion engine to keep prices down. But it’s also safe to expect hybrid and PHEV variants. Plus, the Renegade EV could still be a hit overseas.

The Jeep Avenger EV is already a pint-sized electric SUV available for Europeans, though. According to Gear Patrol, the new Renegade should be larger than the super tiny Avenger, but smaller than the Compass.

The Compass is seven inches longer, so the Renegade could gain a considerable amount of passenger space. Of course, it will need to maintain its trail rated capabilities to live up to its lore. However, we will have to wait to learn more.
