Every day Stellantis is shuffling. It has been making significant changes to adjust to potential new tariffs. The first battery electric Ram truck just got delayed in response to rapidly changing market dynamics.

Stellantis delays electric truck production in America

Delaying electric trucks isn’t exactly new. The Tesla Cybertruck was supposed to arrive in 2019 but didn’t hit the streets until 2024.

The Ram 1500 REV has also faced a few different delays since it was revealed back in 2023. Now Stellantis is pushing it back again until the summer of 2027. It will arrive as the 2028 model year.

This move might be to see how tariffs impact the industry. It might also be based on how well electric trucks are doing in general. The Ford F-150 Lightning has more sales than the Tesla Cybertruck.

However, there isn’t an EV truck that’s exactly flying off the shelves. Even the new Chevy Silverado EV is off to a rough start.

According to Motor 1, the Ramcharger or the hybrid electric truck with a range extender has also been delayed. It has been pushed back from 2025 to 2026.

Production of both trucks is currently  planned to take place at the Sterling Heights Assembly plant. Stellantis is investing $235.5 to prepare the facility for production.

While Stellantis is taking the time to iron out the kinks with these trucks, there’s also slowing consumer demand for half-ton BEV trucks.

Also, other electric SUVs and cars like the Dodge Charger are  currently being built in Mexico, Canada, and Italy.
