It was a quiet night in Gray’s Creek, North Carolina as a semi-truck traveled down Highway 87 near Sand Hill Road. But soon the sound of crushing metal, breaking glass, and turkey gobbles filled the air.
The tractor-trailor was carrying a load of turkeys as it struck a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 that was turning off Sand Hill Road. According to CBS 17, the impact of the collision was so strong that the trucks were found 100 years away from the initial crash site.
Police officers noted that both of the trucks were knocked off the road. It’s unclear who is at fault for the accident, even though the pickup driver turned in front of the semi.
The live turkeys were picked up from Prestage Farms and it’s unclear where they were heading. While the Chevy driver was taken to the hospital in critical condition, the trucker only had minor injuries. He was found walking around the scene and was able to provide assistance.
It’s unclear if turkeys were hurt, but they look lively in images of the wreckage. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like any of the birds escaped to freedom.
Police officers haven’t shared if anyone will be charged. A tow truck pulled both vehicles out of a grassy ditch. The scene was quickly cleared.
