The RV park “10-year rule” seems a bit biased. It discriminates against RV owners who want to save a buck by driving an older, well-kept, recreational vehicle. But parks that bar campers which are more than a decade old are a fact of RVing life.
How common is the 10-year rule? according to TOGO RV, 3% of parks surveyed won’t allow entry for any vehicles over a decade old. Is it a compatibility issue? Probably not, older RVs should hook up to power and water just fine. So is it a safety issue? If so, the park could just ask for a safety inspection.
Getting around an RV park’s 10-year rule
The “Travel Reimagined” TikTok channel focuses on the RV life. It has a theory on the 10-year-rule. “They’re worried about older rigs looking rundown or needing major repairs on site.” But the channel also offers a possible workaround.
“Lots of parks will make exceptions if you send photos of your RV ahead of time.”
Why might this work? If they see you’ve kept your 11+ year old RV won’t be an eyesore and appears in good working order they might prefer to have your business. But at the end of the day, RV parks are private businesses that can refuse to serve certain customers.

? Did you know your RV could be turned away from a campground… just because of its age?! ? Welcome to the world of the 10-Year Rule in RV life! ⛺ If your RV is older than 10 years, some campgrounds may deny your stay, even if your rig is in perfect shape! ? Why? Many parks enforce this to keep their grounds looking tidy and avoid potential issues with maintenance or older RVs breaking down on site. But here’s the good news: ✅ Many campgrounds make exceptions if you send photos ahead of time! ✅ There are TONS of beautiful RV parks out there that don’t follow this rule at all. ✅ Age doesn’t define adventure! Whether your rig is brand new or a vintage gem, the road is still yours to explore. ?? ? Pro tip: Always keep your rig clean and well-maintained, and don’t hesitate to ask before booking! ?
