Rapper Rick Ross recently took to social media with some bizarre claims. He called a simple runway mishap a “crash” and went on to claim that Drake somehow had Tom Cruise shoot his private jet out of the air. Turns out lying about an international air warfare incident is not cool.

Rick Ross wants a feud with Drake

Rick Ross is beefing with Drake. Drake’s response: “Rick who?”

I’m exaggerating a bit, but the truth is that Rick Ross (born William Leonard Roberts II) has been trying very hard to create a rivalry with the much more popular Drake. (Even though he once featured Drake on his track “Aston Martin Music”). Drake hasn’t bothered responding.

Rick Ross accused Drake of getting a nose job, taking to social media to call him “BigNosePapi,” and “BBLDRIZZY.” He wrote an entire track dedicated to dissing Drake called “Champagne Moments.” He was even featured on a Kendrick Lamar song, taking the opportunity to diss Drake further. But his most misguided jab might have been mocking Drake’s plane.

Rick Ross owns a private jet, a 19-passenger Gulfstream G550. So when Drake bought a jet, Rick Ross took to social media to make fun of it, call it old, and warning Drake to be careful while flying in it. The only problem? Drake’s new plane is a Boeing 767. That’s right his “private” plane is the size of a commercial jet. It was originally configured for almost 200 passengers, though Drake has renovated the interior with luxurious amounts of space for himself and his entourage. But Rick Ross’s comments would soon backfire further.

Rick Ross’s private jet “crash”

In May 2024, Rick Ross Gulfstream G550 crashed. That sounds dramatic, but the truth is that Rick Ross was on his way to perform at a restaurant. His Gulfstream had already landed and was taxiing on the ground at an airport. It steered off the pavement, and got its wheels stuck in the mud. Rick Ross’s comments warning Drake about flying were aging like milk. But Ross still tried to use the incident to publicize his nonexistent feud.

Rick Ross posted a bizarre Instagram story about the incident claiming he crashed after seeing a fighter jet headed straight for his Gulfstream. The pilot looked like “Tom Cruise in Top Gun.” Then the next day he posted on Twitter, specifying that this enemy aircraft was Drake’s “OvO F16 fighter jet.”

Again, the comments didn’t age well: You didn’t have to do much digging to find out that his Gulfstream didn’t so much “crash” as took a wrong turn on the ground and tumbled off the taxiway. No dog fights involved. But even so, the U.S. Government isn’t a fan of celebrities making up stories of air warfare. Especially with foreign citizens such as Drake. Not good looks.

The Federal Aviation Administration clapped back with an official statement to set the record straight on Rick Ross’s Gulfstream…mishap. No mention of fighter jets, Tom Cruise, or Drake.

“A Gulfstream G-5 business jet’s left main gear got stuck in the grass while taxiing after landing at Arlington Municipal Airport in Texas around 6:30 p.m.”
