Oh no, the Honda Civic is facing an extremely dangerous recall. Models spanning over six years are at risk of having the wheels suddenly fly off. Over 406,000 cars may need to visit a local dealership for service.

Honda Civic recall for detaching wheels

Roughly 406,290 are being recalled due to a deadly issue. The issue is related to the wheels because they could become loose and suddenly detach from the vehicle.

The recall includes the following Civic model years that are equipped with 18-inch alloy wheels:

  • 2016
  • 2017
  • 2018
  • 2019
  • 2020
  • 2021

Honda warns drivers that loose or missing lug seat inserts may loosen over time, leading to wheel separation in traffic. This greatly increases the risks of accidents, injuries, and death. However, no related accidents or injuries have been reported so far.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), a wheel supplier based in Italy may be responsible for the issue.

Some unfinished wheels that were missing the press-fitted lug inserts were mistakenly shipped as finished products. The unfinished products may have skipped the seat press-fitting and final inspection process. Also, the factory closed in 2023.

If your Honda Civic is at risk, you’ll have to visit a local dealership for service. Technicians will inspect the wheels and replace them as necessary, at no cost to owners.

Honda began notifying owners at risk via mail on October 31, 2025. You can also use the NHTSA VIN tool to see if your vehicle is at risk.
