Recall alert: 2 of the fastest American cars ever are getting recalled because they might catch fire
It turns out that even the most horsepower-wild performance cars out there can’t outrun recalls. Some of the most recent culprits? The high-revving Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and ZR1 are the subject of a recent recall, NHTSA 25V536, citing potentially dangerous fire risks.
Chevrolet just recalled the Corvette Z06 and ZR1 over fire risks associated with the position of fuel filler assemblies
General Motors just released recall program No. N252514930, which cites a “defect which relates to motor vehicle safety may exist in certain 2023 – 2026 model year Chevrolet Corvette vehicles.” More specifically, N252514930 highlights 2023 to 2026 Chevrolet Corvette Z06s and 2025 to 2026 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1s equipped with a left-side fan and radiator setup.
According to the recall notice, “excess fuel spilled into the vehicle fuel-filler pocket during refueling may leak onto an ignition source.” Unfortunately, it took two incidents to identify the potential danger related to refueling. A source at General Motors confirmed that the two incidents may have involved “minor alleged injuries.”
The remedy? For now, be careful filling up
In an almost Trump tweet-style, all-caps message, the recall notice warns owners about pump operation. It reads, “ALWAYS CONFIRM THAT THE FUEL NOZZLE IS COMPLETELY INSERTED INTO THE VEHICLE’S FUEL PIPE BEFORE FUELING. NEVER OVERFILL THE TANK OR ATTEMPT TO FILL AFTER THE FUEL PUMP’S AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF CLICKS ONCE. ALWAYS TURN OFF THE VEHICLE’S ENGINE DURING REFUELING.”
But fret not if you own one of these high-performance Corvettes. Chevrolet says the dealer network will install a physical remedy as soon as possible. Per the GM notice, “Dealers will install an insert/shield to divert spilled fuel.”
