RAV4 and Camry cause a 2-Toyota car crash that took out a Chicago corner bakery in the process
There are nearly 300 car crashes per day in Chicago. So the Windy City is no stranger to traffic-related mayhem. However, nothing prepares even the most been-there-done-that city dweller for a Toyota RAV4 to come smashing through a bakery after a car crash with yet another Toyota.
A Toyota Camry ran a red light, had a car crash with a RAV4, and sent the SUV smashing into a bakery café
A Corner Bakery Café sits at the corner of Wells Street and West Washington Street. As the name suggests, it opens early. It opens at around 6:00 a.m. most mornings, serving coffee, pastries, and breakfast food to hungry Chicagoans. As such, it’s a dangerous place for a Toyota RAV4 to turn a glass storefront into a drive-through by smashing into it.
Fortunately for the Corner Bakery Café’s frequenters, the white Toyota RAV4 didn’t crash into the establishment during its morning rush, rather a little over an hour before opening. The RAV4 was driving east on Washington when it entered the intersection at Wells Street.
At the same time, a Toyota Camry ran a red light at the intersection. Neither vehicle could avoid the car crash. The impact sent the RAV4 into the Corner Bakery Café’s glass-and-metal storefront. Chicago authorities report no injuries in the wreck. The early hour also ensured that the bakery café was deserted at the time.
Since the Toyota Camry driver ran a red light, they were ultimately responsible for the wreck and the damaged bakery. Authorities ticketed the Camry driver for “disobeying a red light” and “failure to reduce speed.” However, it’s unclear whether they will be held accountable for the damage to the Corner Bakery Café.
