Guess whose back, back again? The Ram 1500, HEMI V8 engine is back, tell a friend. I guess you could say the truck felt empty without gas-guzzling power. Ram admits it made a mistake by dropping the beloved powerhouse, so it has officially returned for 2026.

The Ram 1500 HEMI V8 engine is back again

Ram has resurrected the HEMI V8 engine as a symbol of protest. That wording seems a little confusing to me. However, it basically means that truck fans protested Ram from dropping the legendary powerhouse.

Drivers demanded for it to return, and now the gas-guzzling engine is back for 2026. It hasn’t been gone for too long, but in case you need a reminder, the 5.7-liter V8 engine cranks out 395 hp and 410 lb-ft of torque.

It gets an EPA-estimated 19 mpg, which doesn’t seem that bad. The Ford F-150 Hybrid is the most fuel-efficient fuel-efficient gas-powered truck, achieving 25 mpg. Also, the new V6 Hurricane engine with 420 hp also gets an estimated 19 mpg.

To provide drivers with the freedom of choice, the HEMI engine can be added to the Ram 1500 Tradesman, Big Horn, Express, Warlock, and Laramie trims for $1,200. According to Stellantis, it can be added to the Limited and Longhorn trims at no charge and will be available with the Rebel later.

Currently, the most powerful engine for the Ram 1500 in 2026 is the hurricane High Output variant with 540 hp. There has been no mention of the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 engine with 702 hp.
