You can’t have a conversation about Elon Musk’s Tesla nowadays without discussing the brand’s tarnished public image. From protests to vandalism and even violence, those critical of Musk and his automaker aren’t subtle. But that doesn’t excuse tossing a massive, windshield-smashing rock at a Tesla and its pregnant passenger.

A pregnant woman in a Tesla was on a Vancouver road when a two-pound rock crashed through the EV’s windshield

A Tesla was traveling North on Nanaimo Street at around 8:45 p.m. A moment later, a huge rock smashed into the electric vehicle’s windshield, bringing the drive to a horrifying halt. Anyone could have been injured in circumstances like that, it just happened to be a pregnant woman in this case.

“This very serious situation could easily have resulted in someone’s death, but for a few inches,” Vancouver Police Sergeant Steve Addison said. He’s not wrong, either. The large, two-pound stone didn’t just impact the windshield; it speared right through the protective glass and struck the passenger.

According to Vancouver Is Awesome, the pregnant woman suffered serious injuries, but nothing life-threatening. The falling rock struck her in the upper body, breaking a bone before coming to rest on the floorboard.

Police are currently investigating to find the “why” behind the incident. “We are working to determine whether this was a criminal act and if someone intentionally targeted this Tesla,” Sergeant Addison said.

It should be said that Vancouver hasn’t been precisely fond of Tesla lately. A couple of weeks ago, Tesla wasn’t welcome at the 2025 Vancouver International Auto Show. Beyond the auto show, which attracted over 138,000 visitors this year, protests at Vancouver Tesla locations have been commonplace.

As part of the “Tesla Takedown” movement, protesters assembled at dealerships across the British Columbia city. But not every protest is a peaceful one. Vancouver police officers arrested a 27-year-old vandal after he damaged and defaced a Tesla dealer in the area.
