There’s speeding, then there’s speeding. It’s one thing to bend the speed limit by a few mph during a pass on a straightaway. It’s something else entirely to rocket along the German highway in a Porsche sedan at nearly three times the speed limit. The driver who tried this stunt won’t be sliding behind the wheel again anytime soon.

I know what you’re thinking, Doesn’t the German Autobahn highway have no speed limit?

It’s true, there are some rural stretches of Germany’s Autobahn with no speed limit. These are the very roads that he Porsche Panamera Turbo S is engineered for. But stretches of highway near cities do have speed limits.

In one of these sections, which has a 120 km/h speed limit (about 75 mph), police radar caught a car absolutely rocketing. He was clocked at 199 mph.

I expect that the Porsche Panamera Turbo S is electronically limited to that speed. Dealerships advertise its top speed as 196 mph. So this driver wasn’t just speeding, he had his foot pressed to the floor and was bouncing off his car’s electronic speed limiter.

German police say the driver faces a 900 Euro fine ($1043 USD). He got two points on his license. He’s also barred from driving for three months.

Another Porsche Panamera driver was recently ticketed for going 167 mph in a 70 mph in California. They got a $2,700 fine for their troubles.
